Our media production challenges the forms and conventions of real media products this is because when we were filming we filmed in realistic places where are target audience who are represented by the characters will be whereas in real media products they may slightly go over board and be realistic with the area they are filming in which can jog the audience's connection with the film. Another reason is we filmed with very little resources which was just a camera and a tripod and we still managed to create a decent film whereas with professionals they film with very expensive equipment and great quality they have a budget they can spent on filming which is an advantage to them. We made plenty of research to prepare ourself's before creating our media product just like how many other real media products would. Our product imitates other media products in the sense of sound. In our film we use non-diagetic sound throughout to create tension and engage the audience into the film more for example when the situation is about to get dark the audience have a sense that something bad is about to happen just by simply listening to the background sound playing. The non-diagetic music plays with the mind of the viewers. Also in our media product the transitions are used in all the right places to show time change and to also show the plot darking. Our biggest challenge to conventions of real media products is our main character is a black female which breaks a racial stereotype of people of colour being involved in a psychological thriller as in many other psychological thrillers the main character is usually a young white male. Another Challenge we created was we made the antagonist and protagonist the same race, gender and age in real media products the make these two roles as opposite as they can especially in gender and class.
Our media product represents middle/working class teenagers mainly because our target audience was aimed at a range of 17-23 our film can film can relate to any teenager even through our plot is about sisters disliking/hating their new foster sister it can also relate to teenagers going through bullying, moving into a new environment or even what many teenagers today are facing which is discovering themselves. Our media represents teenagers because all the main characters are played by teenagers acting out teenagers.
A media institution such as YouTube might distribute our media product. YouTube is a good platform for our film because it's so easy to put our film on there and it is out to national public from YouTube the film could get many views and someone from a bigger platform/level may see the film and introduce it to private cinemas which can eventually more on to big public cinemas and a lot of profit can be made from the film.
The audience for our media product would be 17-23 year olds because they are closer in age to the characters in the film and can therefore relate more to the film and also it would attract to them more because people of that age are more likely to emphasis and understand anyone going through a stressful situation and would be happy to became more aware of what could be really going on in the world and they can learn from things like our film.
We attracted and addressed our audience by displaying real life events that are likely to happen to them. We made the location so casual (a house) this shows the reality of are film and such tragic events don't have to happen in a dangerous or scary area but even in a place where you would want to fell safe. Our film displayed realistic events that could happen to anyone and our target audience are attracted by this because they are prone to want to know more about situations like this and how to act upon it.
I have personally learnt a lot about technologies from the process of constructing our media product I have learnt how to record different shots with a camera and how to manipulate it into filming a scene a certain way. I have especially learnt a lot about how to edit a film and use première as it is something I have not used before and may help me in the future. I have also learnt about how useful YouTube can really be and can even pave pathways for people to became successful in the future if they really strive for it.
looking back at my preliminary task I have learnt many things during the progression to the full product. I have learnt how to edit a video as I did not know how to before. I learnt how to add different transitions unto the film. I learnt how to edit the audio such as add music in a video and cutting out audio from a video. I have learnt how to shot different shots and angles using one camera and how to use it to your advantage. i have learnt a lot about psychological thrillers before this task I would really have looked into much detail about how psychological thrillers has affects onits audience and making our own psychological thrillers has given we a wider understanding about thrillers in general,.
