Evaluation-  Jennifer evaluation write-up

As a production team we wanted our film  "like it was yesterday" to be at a high standard; to do this we used, developed and challenged forms and conventions of real media products. We knew that as a company it would be hard to compete with other more experienced and wealthier film companies; so we thought we should use particular real media products to make our film better . One way that we used a media product was to challenge the soundtrack they had in their film. For example a media product that we challenged was Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension When our production team watch the trailer we noticed that the non- diegetic music seemed predictable and familiar as its been on other. From our survey that we conducted in our planning process we found out that out target audience wanted non-diegetic music that was different and something that they could relate to; other than just the typical suspense soundtrack that was played in Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. So our production chose a hip hop song with suitable instrumentals for our opening scene. The song is called "escape from heaven" and it created a peaceful and soothing atmosphere in the opening scenes. It was also something that a lot of our audience related to due to the fact that most of them are aware of who Tupac is and loved his music. Using this non-diegetic music into our film challenged Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension that is  from a  more known film company as it was something that the audience found different and enjoyable; making our film stand out.  As Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension  is a known and popular thriller film we also wanted to incorporate some of their ideas into out film. We noticed that they used a lot of the POV shot in that film and it made things more effective as it was like you were experiencing the event yourself. So we did the same thing but for a different purpose; we used the POV shot particularly when Porsha was being abused because we wanted the audience to see things from her perspective and understand the pain that she's going through. For example the first POV shot used in our film was when Porsha was looking up at the sisters on the stairs; and from this the audience can tell that Porsha is afraid of what their intentions may be; which captivates their attention. Another media product that we looked at was Insidious: Chapter 3 and from this movie we used the transition effect of fade to black. In that film that's effect was used when the main character seemed almost unconscious on the floor and it made it seem as if the audience was watching the evil man from the perspective of the girl hurt on the floor. So in our film we used the fade to black when Porsha was on the floor after being pushed down the stairs watching her foster sisters come down that stairs. This created a intense and fearful atmosphere; making the audience afraid for Porsha.

In our film "like it was yesterday" we thought it was important to represent social groups that can be relatable or seen as stereotyped in society. We focused on two social groups which were race and age. The race that our film was representing was black people and we wanted to portray them in a way that may be stereotyped but yet still could be relatable in reality.  Normally black people are stereotyped as those who have subservient in work roles, involved in drugs, violent and have anti-social behaviour. This is due to the frustration of being aware of their inability to climb the social ladder. In our film the location of these characters is in the UK and in reality not all of them are recognised as being in the same level as the white people. Our film demonstrates these stereotypes due to the fact Porsha has been surrounded by violence all her life. In the flashbacks the home she lived in with her mum and dad was a council house because her dad was a violent drunk who didn't have the motivation to look for a job. The stereotype of black people being extremely violence was shown in this film as Porsha's dad was an abuser who constantly physically attacked her mum. Also Layla and Jessica were also extremely violent as they were always in possession of a weapon to abuse and torture Porsha. Our film represented the race of black people as those who just cause disruptions and make no progress in their lives but rather use act on impulse and frustration. An example would be when Porsha and Layla and Jessica are in the supermarket making noise as the sisters are chasing after her with a knife. When it comes to age we represented youths as being troublemakers, violent and powerless. Porsha is a 16 year old girl and made powerless due to the fact that she's not allowed live on her own that's why she had to be sent to a foster home that made her life a living hell. If she was older she wouldn't have to endure all of this pain because she wouldn't have to be in a foster home but have the freedom to choose where she wants to live that makes her happy. Also the Layla and Jessica as represented as the youth who are violent and disruptive due to their constant act that goes against the law. They hold weapons, they take drugs and they choose to fight and hurt people who are around them to either make a point or just because they don't like that person and Porsha was obviously a victim of that. The stereotype make about teens in reality was represented in this film.

We know that as a small company with a small budget to make our film our quality wouldn't be good enough for our film to be watched in the cinema but we didn't that discourage us as there are many ways we distribute our film. So because of this fact we had to look for a institution that will help us advertise out product in a effective way that would help us make a profit. Even though cinema is a very effective way of distributing your products we know for a fact that most of out target audience is part of a social media site and most of them go on YouTube. So as a start all we wanted to do was to distribute out products online so that out target audience can access it easily. So the media institution we used was YouTube and we posted our film on Facebook and twitter. The benefits of doing so is that are target audience can watch our film for free and truly recognise this company. Another reason why we want to post our film on YouTube is because people who watch van comment on it and this will make us aware of how they feel about aspects of the film and the film in general. We could also use those comments to improve our future films. In the future we are hoping to distribute our films in a bigger way such as the cinema as well as synergise our film so that we can promote our product in a way that everyone would know who we are.

For our film "like it was yesterday" out production team had a specific target audience that we wanted to watch the film. This is because we thought they were more likely to enjoy the feel and truly relate to it and understand the characters from their actions. Our audience would 17- 32 years olds because out of the wild range of ages we thought this that age range would be the most interested in out thriller film. Teen girls would definitely be the audience for our film because they would be more likely to see things from Porsha's perspective and feel the most pity for her predicaments. Also females that are about to be middle aged  such as the 32 year olds and this is because they would find the film interesting  due the fact that in this film its actually to other females afflicting a female like them with so much pain. Another reason why we chose this exact target audience for our film is because we wanted to reach for a more broader range as older teens to middle aged as a wide range of people to impress; but we wanted a challenge. We also thought they were the most likely to learn from what is happening in the film and apply it to their lives in a way that would be beneficial to people. Its a psychological thriller so we didn't want our audience to be too young as the film is an emotional one that could really open the minds of the audience about the impact of abuse.

As a production team we knew who our target audience were but that was just the beginning because we had to attract them as well. So through research, interviews and surveys we tried to understand what our target audience is attracted to. From a survey we conduced we found out that our target audience was attracted to hip hop music and that's why we had a Tupac instrumental in out film. Another thing that our target audience was attracted to was props; so for this reason we made sure that Jessica and Layla always had a weapon when they wanted to torture Porsha. These two finding were from the younger generation from target audience as they loved captivating things that makes the film seem unpredictable. They also outlined the fact that more music that they were familiar with and enjoyed should be part of the non-diegetic music and that's what did. However from the survey we conducted we found out that the older generation from our target audience such as the 29-23 year olds loved psychological thriller that presented awareness of horrible circumstances that people face and that's why we emphasized the horrible act of abuse in our film. So because this would find the plot of the story interesting as educative of the kind of impact abuse puts on someone. We also took interviews with members of the public who were are target audience and stated that they liked films that had costumes that were realistic; so they were the ones that influenced us to make our costumes normal and not too creative. We also asked people in interviews the kind of locations they would like to see in the film and most of the teens said that they wanted to see clubs. They outlined the fact that they want an drastic event to happen in the club to enrapture their attention.

During the process of constructing there was a variety technology that had to be used film and edit eh scenes. I am not as experienced as the other members of my production teams so during this process I had to be learning at the same time. The first thing that that I learnt about technology was that a camera was not all that was need to construct a film. We used computer software's such as prezi's and this was basically just an advanced PowerPoint. It was used for us as a production team to talk about the steps we carried out in editing and how they are beneficial to our film. Another computer software that we used was adobe premiere from using this I leant how films are cut, put in slow motion or fast motion,  transition effects, title graphics and how to put soundtrack in our film. So generally using this computer software I learnt how to edit a film. Using technology in the construction process also taught me how to be smart with the camera as from this I knew how to start and pause the camera at the right time to that the continuity of the film is good. So I conclusion technologies from the process of constructing this product taught me how to be a better film maker.

From the planning of the film to the distribution and evaluation of the film I feel I gave learnt a lot. The first thing that I learnt was that making a film doesn't consist of just using a camera to film actors but actually it consists of many processes. such as the planning, construction, evaluation, distributing and more. Its not an easy task as what most people would think.  In the planning process my knowledge of film making increased as I came across computer software's such as survey monkey and blogger. Survey monkey helped me learn what the public really wanted in a thriller film and blogger was a way to record the whole process by demonstrating to the public what I did. I also learnt how to use Photoshop to make our poster. In the construction process I learnt that the camera was not the only technology used to make the film as adobe premiere was what helped us edit the film as well. From this software I leant of different components needed to do specific things in the editing. In addition to what I've learnt is mis-en-scene and the  representation of characters. This helped us form characters that represent how people are seen in society. Mis-en-scene helped me learn how to set a scene in terms of props, costumes, location, lighting and etc. In general I leant that to be a film maker takes patience dedication and motivation as its a lot to go through and its not easy with a team so if you have that mind set you can pass through all the challenges and come out with a successful product.

Evaluation Write Up: Amirah Mukoko

1.     In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The film our production company created “Like it was Yesterday” challenges the forms and conventions of real media products. The fact that our resources were so limited meant that we were not able to create our film to the same standard as popular psychological thrillers such as the movie “Silence of the Lambs”. Therefore, rather than making our film predictable we challenged different aspects of real media products. For example, for our sound track we decided to begin it with a calm Tupac song (“Escape to Heaven Instrumental”) in order to set a calm atmosphere so that further events would come across as more dramatic. However, we also used the media products as inspiration for our Camera shots specifically, our Point of view shot (POV) when Jessica and Layla push Porsha down the stairs as well as the dramatic music, which accompanied this event. After watching thrillers like the Silence of the Lambs we found that shots such as these help intensify the scene and make it more thrilling therefore we incorporated it into our own production.

2.     How does your media represent particular social groups?

Within our film the two main social groups we were able to represent were Race and Age. Our film revolved around characters that are around 16 years of age. Stereotypically, the youth are commonly perceived as violent and also powerless beings. Our aim was to incorporate these views in order to make our film more relatable and the way in which we had done this were through The characters of Layla, Jessica and Porsha. Layla and Jessica represent the violent stereotype as youth as they torment and bully their new foster sister stretching their behaviour as far as threatening her with a knife. These events make Porsha seem weak which demonstrates the stereotype of young people being powerless against greater threats. The second social group we were able to demonstrate was race as all the characters in our film were Black. The way in which ethnic minority groups such as black people are stereotyped displays them to be Aggressive, Loud and short tempered individuals who behave in an anti-social manor due to their incapability of climbing the social ladder. This stereotype of black people is heavily portrayed in our film and is demonstrated in Porsha’s past as she has been a witness to violence from an early age as her father abused her mother as well as growing up in foster care as a result of her unstable home life. Although Porsha herself does not fit this violent stereotype her new stepsisters do. Layla and Jessica are extremely violent individuals and are angry at the fact that they have to welcome a new sister. They act out on their angry by abusing Porsha in ways such as pushing her down the stairs and placing a knife to her throat.

3.     What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Seeing as our production company is new and unknown we distributed our film onto YouTube. YouTube is a very popular site which allows people to share videos on a global scale, we thought posting our film here would be effective as it is not only free to use but free to post so anyone can easily view it. Post on this site would allow us to get feedback on our film so we are able to get an idea of whether our production was successful and if not what improvements we may make for the future. In addition to this it would allow our company to gain recognition and if our production is successful on this site we may be able to progress onto Independent Film festivals where we would have the opportunity to move our film into National Cinemas if it is popular. If our film is shown in National Cinemas it allows our production to be distributed into cinemas within the country and later if it shows signs of success it can be internationally shared. With this plan in mind we felt that YouTube would be the best place for us to begin this process and posted our film.

4.     Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our target audience were people who ranged from the ages 17-23 and mainly the female population. The reason we had chosen this age range is because statistically it is people who are around this age group that watch more thriller films along with the fact that the characters in our film are quite young so it the film would be more relatable to people of this age compared to the older generation. We felt as though teenage girls would more interested in our thriller seeing as the main characters themselves are teenage girls therefore they are able to relate to the characters. The reason our target audience is mainly female is because the main characters in our film are female also and men prefer watching thriller films, which contain a male lead. In addition 53% of women like to watch horror films and 42% of men therefore our set of demographics were created mainly to please the highest percentage of thriller watchers which are women. However, we did not only base our film to please women although they were our main target audience we made our story diverse so that men would be able to enjoy the film as well as women.

5.     How did you attract/address your audience?

At the start of our production we conducted a number of surveys using the survey monkey website in order to gain knowledge on the preferences of our target audience. We also conducted interviews with people in order to find out what type of thriller they would like to see and what they felt makes a great production. In the interviews and surveys we asked our target audience what kind of music they preferred and where they would find themselves on a Friday night. The majority voted they enjoyed Hip-Hop music, which is why for our non-diegetic soundtrack we use the instrumental of a Tupac song. As for location most people said they would be at home, therefore, in order to make it more relatable we set our opening scene inside a house. Through this research we found that unexpected and exciting props played an important role in the popularity of the thriller, which is why during the intense abuse scene we had the sisters bring out the knife to threaten Porsha. Most of the people we had asked described our storyline as unique as it is not a common plot for thriller films as well as the fact that there are not many Psychological thrillers being made and people who ranged in the middle ages of our target audience voted they enjoyed psychological thrillers. Our production company included as many of our target audience’s preferences as we could with our limited resources.

6.     What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Throughout our construction process I had come to realise just how dependent on technology creating a film is. For example, during the creation of our film we had to use the Adobe Premiere software in order to edit and merge our clips. This software helped us with the continuity of our film as well as allowing us to include special effects such as slow motion. Although this task was not as difficult as I expected it was still rather frustrating and time-consuming. Another piece of technology we used was Celtx, this software allowed us to create a script and a storyboard for our movie as well as a schedule for filming times. I’ve also learnt that without technology creating a film would be a very difficult task, technology and media come together as a pair. Not only does technology help better the production of the film it aids in your understanding of film and allows you to become an efficient filmmaker.

7.     Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Throughout this whole preliminary task I have learnt that media is not simply holding a camera and filming clips. Planning a film and editing the film is more time consuming than the actual filming. In addition I have also learnt a variety of skills such as editing and Photoshop as well as how to direct a film and the importance of continuity. The knowledge I’ve gained from this experience can also benefit me in the future for example if I were to create short clips for work or create presentations I would now be able to do that quickly. Now when I am watching programs and movies I am able to apply my media knowledge. To create a film requires a large amount of thought for example, Mise-En-Scene allowed me to understand the impact of costume, lighting, space, props and location can have on a film as a change in either of these aspects can create a whole different atmosphere. On top of this I learnt the different camera angles and what kind of effect each angle would have on a specific scene. I feel that if I were to complete this task again with the knowledge I now have I would be able to create a far greater piece of work.

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media production?

The title of the film that was created by SpadesProduction is "Like It Was Yesterday", which in a way gave the overall idea that something was about to happen again. Even though it does not give away what happened it hints the fact that it was not something good. This relates the plot and the genre of the film. Our film was a psychological film which was meant to make people reflect on what the film would be about and in using that title, we were able to achieve this. We were able to film with different shots and angles in different rural areas, which real media production uses in horror movies. We were able to use the location to stereotype the different groups involved and in this case it was a group of black girls living in a rural area. this links back with what real media production uses, for example in Texas Chainsaw, they were able to film in a rural area in Texas to present the idea that those types of areas are the dangerous type of places to live in. Most trailers would start with a peaceful looking environment to draw the attention of the audience, but in the end it ends up being the opposite of what the film is actually about. We have similarly done that in our film, when it started off in a bright setting with sunshine to a house full of darkness and mysteries. The crops we used also conforms to the idea of a horror movie which in this case was a knife. The Knife symbolizes danger and films like The Halloween series starring Michael Meyers and his choice of weapon was a sharp bladed kitchen knife. Our character was a small black girl and those that attacked her were two other black girls but those look older than she is. In a typical horror film, the “weak" character is played by a girl and we were able to use that idea and place it in our film. Even though our main character was not conventional looking however the characters age was not unusual due to the fact that it followed the idea the genre involving teenagers in horror films.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our film was related to:
1. Gender
2. Race
3. Class
4. Age
In this case, our main character was a working class black female around the age of 16. In today's society, Black girls are seen in two ways. They are seen to be the weakest group within society and they are also seen as threatening and violent. We were able to present this because in our film, the main character was the weakest one who was bullied and threatened and those who threatened her were also black females. In society, it is seen that black girls tend to turn on each other and cause trouble with one another. This may not be the case in society now, we were able to present this. One of the violent girls in the movie, was wearing a hoodie and this stereotypes the idea that black people in hoodies are involved with crime and gangs involving violence. The mother in the movie is a black working women around the age of 40. And in the film, we can see there were no male present, and this shows the stereotypical idea that a home is not complete without the male role controlling it. As we can see there was no control within the family as the girls were left alone in the house and it can be seen that they had no fatherly figure to protect them.

Who would be the audience for your media product? /How did you Attract/ address your audience?

We have chosen teenagers around the age of 13-19, due to the fact that they can relate to what happens behind closed doors. This makes them aware that there are things happening behind closed doors in other people's lives which society is not aware of. We chose this audience because the characters in our film were also teenagers, which draws their attention and make them think about how they are treated equally or stereotyped in society.
We were able to attract our audience by placing them in a certain location which they can relate to. The characters we chose were wearing clothes that the audience can also relate to.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the creation of my media product, an opening sequence, I’ve learnt a great deal about technologies and they have vastly helped, and improved, my media product. This is the camera we used to film our opening sequence. To ensure the different shots in our film opening where effective we had to use a camera which was clear. We tried using the canon but we had problems with the lighting as the quality wasn’t good. This affected the overall appearance of our sequence as it wasn’t clear of what was happening in the sequence. We found the camera to be successful as we were able to record the footage in high definition and the quality of sound was good. The Sony Camera.

Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progress form it to the full product?

I feel that I have made immense progress since the preliminary task. The preliminary task was very straightforward and lacked in any interesting camera angles, editing or dialogue. As I researched and looked into the drama genre and many opening sequences, I began to develop the look and feel of what I wanted to achieve in my opening.

Evaluation- Mercy Evaluation writeup

Our media production challenges the forms and conventions of real media products this is because when we were filming we filmed in realistic places where are target audience who are represented by the characters will be whereas in real media products they may slightly go over board and be realistic with the area they are filming in which can jog the audience's connection with the film. Another reason is we filmed with very little resources which was just a camera and a tripod and we still managed to create a decent film whereas with professionals they film with very expensive equipment and great quality they have a budget they can spent on filming which is an advantage to them. We made plenty of research to prepare ourself's before creating our media product just like how many other real media products would. Our product imitates other media products in the sense of sound. In our film we use non-diagetic sound throughout to create tension and engage the audience into the film more for example when the situation is about to get dark the audience have a sense that something bad is about to happen just by simply listening to the background sound playing. The non-diagetic music plays with the mind of the viewers. Also in our media product the transitions are used in all the right places to show time change and to also show the plot darking. Our biggest challenge to conventions of real media products is our main character is a black female which breaks a racial stereotype of people of colour being involved in a psychological thriller as in many other psychological thrillers the main character is usually a young white male. Another Challenge we created was we made the antagonist and protagonist the same race, gender and age in real media products the make these two roles as opposite as they can especially in gender and class.

Our media product represents middle/working class teenagers mainly because our target audience was aimed at a range of 17-23 our film can film can relate to any teenager even through our plot is about sisters disliking/hating their new foster sister it can also relate to teenagers going through bullying, moving into a new environment or even what many teenagers today are facing which is discovering themselves. Our media represents teenagers because all the main characters are played by teenagers acting out teenagers.

A media institution such as YouTube might distribute our media product. YouTube is a good platform for our film because it's so easy to put our film on there and it is out to national public from YouTube the film could get many views and someone from a bigger platform/level may see the film and introduce it to private cinemas which can eventually more on to big public cinemas and a lot of profit can be made from the film.

The audience for our media product would be 17-23 year olds because they are closer in age to the characters in the film and can therefore relate more to the film and also it would attract to them more because people of that age are more likely to emphasis and understand anyone going through a stressful situation and would be happy to became more aware of what could be really going on in the world and they can learn from things like our film.

We attracted and addressed our audience by displaying real life events that are likely to happen to them. We made the location so casual (a house) this shows the reality of are film and such tragic events don't have to happen in a dangerous or scary area but even in a place where you would want to fell safe. Our film displayed realistic events that could happen to anyone and our target audience are attracted by this because they are prone to want to know more about situations like this and how to act upon it.

I have personally learnt a lot about technologies from the process of constructing our media product I have learnt how to record different shots with a camera and how to manipulate it into filming a scene a certain way. I have especially learnt a lot about how to edit a film and use première as it is something I have not used before and may help me in the future. I have also learnt about how useful YouTube can really be and can even pave pathways for people to became successful in the future if they really strive for it.

looking back at my preliminary task I have learnt many things during the progression to the full product. I have learnt how to edit a video as I did not know how to before. I learnt how to add different transitions unto the film. I learnt how to edit the audio such as add music in a video and cutting out audio from a video. I have learnt how to shot different shots and angles using one camera and how to use it to your advantage. i have learnt a lot about psychological thrillers before this task I would really have looked into much detail about how psychological thrillers has affects onits audience and making our own psychological thrillers has given we a wider understanding about thrillers in general,.

Evaluation- How did you attract your target audience? Jennifer

Evaluation- How did you attract your target audience?

For our film "like it was yesterday" our exact target audience was 17- 32 years olds because out of the wild range of ages we thought this that age range would be the most interested in out thriller film. Another reason why we chose this exact target audience for our film is because we wanted to reach for a more broader range as older teens to middle aged as a wide range of people to impress; but we wanted a challenge. We also that they were the most likely to understand and relate to the storyline of the film. So because we had a specific target audience we tried as much as possible to attract them to the film and the different aspects of the film such as the location, costumes of the characters, surveys, interviews and etc. When were look specifically at how the film would attract this age range; we used location as an aspect to do so.

A location in the film that would attract the audience is the alley way towards the foster home that Porsha is going to and this is because it creates suspense and would make the audience be curious on where she's going; the younger audience from the age group such as the teenagers and young adults would see this alley way as something to be excited about as it would captivate their attention to continue watching the film. However the older audience from that age range such as those in their late 20's and early 30's may feel connected to the poor girl and be worried that where she's going is dangerous making them worried. So in general the alley way captivates the audience attention attracting them to the film. As we continue the shooting of the film other locations that would be viewed are going to be forests and a supermarket. The forest is going to be at the back of the foster home and this is where Porsha continually goes to feel safe away from her evil sisters. We want to attract our target audience with this location because its a forest and normally in forests is where bad things happen however we wanted to change that and make the forest where Porsha can feel safe and gain some pleasure in life with some atom of peace and we suspect that the audience would find that interesting. On the other hand the supermarket is used for a different purpose. The target audience can definitely relate to a supermarket because it a fact that they all go there to buy items; but in this movie the supermarket will be a place where Porsha finds herself in much danger as the sisters violently attach her with kitchen utensils from that aisle. In terms of mis-en-scene what we would change if we were to continue this film is to add more creative props instead of just the typical ones like knifes and guns. This would make our thriller film more captivating and scary.

In addition to how we attracted our target audience is by conducting surveys and this survey asked a variety of questions that make us understand out target audience even more. we asked questions such as what location do you want to see in film? ,How they feel about abuse?, The type of soundtrack they want to hear? and etc. when we got the results we made sure we included their opinions in the film. Such as the location we added the supermarket into out plans because we wanted to please and attract out target audience. Since this is a broad target audience it was obvious that the older generation from our target audience got the majority of the influence to make the supermarket a reality in our film but we didn't want to ignore the younger generation so we added Porsha, Jessica and Layla being at the club; and this made it fair for our target audience in general. In our survey results most of out target audience asked for more street and hip hop soundtrack because they said they were tired of the same suspense soundtrack that stays on for the whole of a thriller film. So because of this we decided to add Tupac escape to heaven instrumental soundtrack to meet their expectation. When we asked the audience how they felt about abuse being portrayed in films 100% of them said that it was okay to be viewed as long as the film doesn't encourage abuse. This is exactly what we did as we portrayed Porsha being abused by her foster sisters as a cruel and wicked thing. We made sure that the storyline consisted of a consequence that Jessica and Layla deserved. However in our survey there are things that  our target audience wanted that we didn't meet. There was a question that asked which ages they would be prefer to see in our film. In our results most of the audience asked that the film had a variety of ages to keep the film unpredictable and also to make it fair for anyone who is watching the film to relate to the characters. The age variety of characters in this film is limited as there are only teen to middle aged characters in the film. So what we would change in this film if we were to continue it is to add young children and the elderly to please our target audience and to make the film not be like a typical thriller film but a different one.

In addition to how we attracted our target audience is by research; we wanted to analyse and know how our target audience would feel about the film we made so we selected two boys and two girls and videoed them watching the opening scene of our film. From what we observed the boys and girl were calm when right at the beginning of the film when Porsha got on the bus and walked to her foster home. When Jessica and Layla were introduced in the movie we noticed girls and boys had a look on their faces likes these girls are going to be trouble in the film. Then when they told Porsha to come upstairs with them to show her around one of the boy shouted that Porsha shouldn't go with; this is because he feared for what they would do to Porsha. In the part of the movie when Jessica and Layla stopped in the middle of the stairs one of the girls shouted that  Porsha should run. When the POV shot appeared on the scene of their hands to push Porsha one of the girls closed their eyes because they didn't want to see the fall down the stairs Porsha would have. The two boys and girls who watched the part when Porsha fell down the stairs had a shocked facial expression on their faces and were very sympathetic towards Porsha. when the sisters slowly when down the stairs; one boy of the boys shouted that Porsha should get up and run. All the boys and girls gasped as Jessica pulled out the knife and was scraping it on the wall. At this point of the boys and girls shouted that Porsha should run. At the end of the opening scene when the two sisters drag Porsha up and put the knife at her neck; the reaction from the two boys and girls were as if they thought Porsha was going to die at this very moment. We were pleased with the reaction we got from out target audience because it was as if they were there and also that they knew how Porsha felt in those particular scenes. They also had reactions that we wanted such as the fact that they were afraid fro Porsha as they didn't want her to die. However what we didn't like the fact that the audience could immediately predict what's going to happen in the film so the changes we would make because of this is to makes the sisters seem like nice people when their first introduced so that the perception of them by the audience is opposite to what they expect.

Evaluation-Who would be the target audience for your film?

The exact target audience for our film is British urban black teenage females. We felt the need to attract the British towards our film because we felt they will be able to connect emotionally and understand the characters better than maybe American teens. We felt the need to attract people aged 16-26 because we felt that they will be able to understand the situation more and the characters used are based around the same age we thought it was easier to attract them rather then people that are aged older as they would not understand the bullying part of the film and people aged younger would not understand the darker side of the film plot so we aimed to attract the people similar ages to the character. We attracted mostly females due to the stereotype that females are always bitchy towards each other and we felt that females will be able to understand the plot of the story more and connect with whichever character they want. We felt the need to attract every race but mostly wanted to connect the black British since the characters where black British and in the film industry the white characters are mostly dominating especially in thrillers so we decided to used leading black characters.
